Cloudflare is a massive backbone provider for the Internet (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloudflare).
The Cloudflare CEO, Matthew Prince, explained his approach to deciding who to lay off during their restructuring (see https://finance.yahoo.com/sectors/technology/articles/cloudflare-announces-more-1-100-142127862.html). He categorized employees into three groups: Builders, Sales, and Measurers. He mentioned that Builders are always needed, but they must rely on AI to perform their tasks. Sales roles require human interaction because people respond better to other people. Measurers, such as bookkeepers, accountants, and middle managers, are at risk because AI can handle measurement tasks effectively with some oversight. He provides valuable insights in the original WSJ article (https://www.wsj.com/opinion/how-i-choose-which-cloudflare-employees-to-replace-with-ai-40a197e5), which is paywalled, offering guidance for students and recent college graduates.
I believe it’s all a worthwhile read.
The Genesis of ZeroCadence
Back in 2003 I started a blog that was intended to be a collection of short posts. Mostly for me but ideally useful to others, it was a collection of short posts highlighting or discussing a single topic. This newsletter is the evolution of that concept — short posts highlighting what I consider to be interesting and worthwhile tech news items.
This newsletter will always be free but if you like it and you want to show your appreciation, you can buy me a coffee for as little as $1, the suggested $3. or any amount you think appropriate.
And thanks for reading!
